I struggled with the ups and downs of weight loss and weight gain for most of my adult life. As I was approaching 50, I was eating the same but the weight began creeping up again. Since my mom suffered a heart attack at the age of 58 and both her and my grandmother died at the young age of 64, I knew that it was now or never to get on track with a complete lifestyle change. As a nurse, I had seen a number of co-workers at the hospital where I work lose a great deal of weight after lap band surgery and gastric sleeve surgery. I did my due diligence and spoke with all of them, asking them the pros and cons of both types of surgery. The consensus for me was gastric sleeve surgery. Dr. Yurcisin, Registered Dietitian Anna, and Surgical Coordinator Julie were extremely patient with me, and the rest of the entire staff were wonderful too. I had the surgery in July of 2015 and have kept off the weight for the past four years. I came within 20 pounds of my goal and a few months ago finally decided to get back on the horse and finish the journey. I am down 8 additional pounds with only 12 more to go. I began the journey at 213 pounds and am looking forward to weighing 120 lbs within the next few months. My only regret is not doing the surgery sooner. Now I can hope to enjoy a longer life with the loves of my life, my three wonderful grandchildren!

My wife Dawn had gastric sleeve surgery in July of 2015. It went so well and she was so determined to get healthy that I decided to have the same surgery with Dr. Yurcisin in December of 2015, six months after my wife. My weight was centered around my stomach and my wife, who is a nurse, kept reminding me that I was at high risk for a heart attack and diabetes. My recovery went differently than my wife’s but I hung in there and lost 80 lbs. I was able to keep the weight off for 2 ½ years but found a few pounds creeping back on the past year. My wife reminded me of all the hard work I had put in with the surgery and weight loss so I decided to get back to work and ensure that it stayed off. I have been eating healthy these past few months and have lost most of what I’ve gained and am now only 9 lbs short of my final goal weight. I started my journey at 255 lbs and am looking forward to living a healthy lifestyle at 170 lbs. Now I can get back to traveling, home renovations, and gardening without the aches and pains and huffing and puffing that are a result of excess weight which stifles your ability to do the things you love to do. Thanks Dr. Yurcisin and Anna!
